Kona Ice giving away free cups of shaved ice on Tax Day

Kona Ice in Athens is hosting its third annual Chill Out Day Monday to coincide with Tax Day, according to a press release.

Kona Ice will be at Athens City Hall on Wilkinson Street from 8:30-10 a.m., the Athens Wal-Mart from 10:30-11:30 a.m., The Square from noon to 1 p.m. and the Athens Sportsplex from 2-3:30 p.m.

The business will hand out free cups of tropical shaved ice and complimentary Hawaiian leis to all who stop by, the release said.

A national chain, Kona Ice has given more than $35 million dollars to neighborhood schools, organizations and teams since its inception in 2007. Customers can create their own Kona Ice on the self-serve Flavorwave while taking in the sights and sounds from the tropics. Currently, there are more than 700 franchise units in more than 45 states.
