MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate in a northwest Alabama jail.

Muscle Shoals Police Chief Robert Evans said the inmate died in the Muscle Shoals City Jail.

Evans said the man was found Tuesday morning. He said medical help was called immediately, but efforts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful.

The TimesDaily reports that the Colbert County coroner has been called to the jail, and the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation will also investigate.

The inmate’s name wasn’t immediately released.
