Harold Benson

Harold E. Benson, 74, of Friendsville, Tennessee, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday March 19, 2016, at Blount Memorial Hospital after years of suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

Harold retired from General Motors after 27 years. He was a member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church in Louisville, Tennessee, and a member of UAW Autoworkers Local No. 2195 in Athens, and Matteson Lodge No. 0175 in Joliet, Illinois

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dixie Benson; father and mother-in-law, Jake and Zelma Morton; sister-in-law, Brenda Lovingood; and brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Martha Morton.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years and love of his life, Viva; brothers, Ralph Benson and wife Liz of Maryville, Tennessee, and David Benson of Friendsville; sisters, Susie Slyman, Phyllis Crisp and husband Jerry of Knoxville, Tennessee, Pat Chesky and husband Sheldon of St. Louis, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Dee Morton of Friendsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday, March 25 at Zion Chapel Baptist Church in Louisville, Tennessee. Masonic service and the Rev. Jack Housley will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers you can make donations in memory of Harold to Zion Chapel Cemetery Fund at any Capital Bank location.

Friends and family are welcome to visit with family at Zion Chapel Family Life Center following the service.
