MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Mobile police say they believe a body found in a freezer was Arletha Hopkins, the wife of Anthony Hopkins, the man charged with murder when the body was discovered.
Investigators say the body appears to have been in the freezer for several years. They found it after a relative of Hopkins contacted police.
Arletha Hopkins had not been heard from in more than three years and was never reported missing.
Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett says Hopkins was preaching at a revival in Jackson Monday night when the relative told officers Hopkins had sexually abused her. Police found out about the body while talking to the relative.
Hopkins has been charged with murder and with rape and sodomy. The other seven children who lived with him have been taken into protective custody.
