TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — A fifth person is charged in the slaying of a woman who was found dead and tied to a tree in a west Alabama forest.

Authorities say 27-year-old Steven Keith George of Brent is charged with capital murder in the death of Samantha Payne.

Four others were previously charged with murder or kidnapping in her stabbing death.

Payne left home to celebrate her 29th birthday in early November and wasn’t seen alive again. Squirrel hunters found her body tied to a tree a week later in the Talladega National Forest in rural Tuscaloosa County.

George has been in the Hale County Jail on drug charges. He’s now being held without bond in Tuscaloosa County.
