Alabama Law Enforcement Agency probing police shooting in Muscle Shoals

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man who was shot in a confrontation with police.

Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley tells the TimesDaily (http://bit.ly/1OiA7Xb ) 27-yer-old Eric David Edgell of Tuscumbia died after being shot on the Tennessee Valley Authority Reservation Sunday.

Muscle Shoals Police Chief Robert Evans tells WAFF-TV (http://bit.ly/1FToRNX) authorities were responding to calls about a man carrying a weapon and Edgell fired at officers when they tried talking to him.

Authorities returned fire and Edgell later died at a hospital.

Utley says the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences is doing an autopsy on Edgell.

State Trooper Johnathan Appling says the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the shooting and will release findings to the district attorney.
