An Athens man arrested in April after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl is facing an upgraded charge of first-degree rape, an Athens Police investigator said Monday.

Larquis Delmar Crutcher, 26, of 1807 Levert Circle, was arrested Sunday on a Limestone County Sheriff’s Department warrant, Capt. Trevor Harris said. Listed among his charges was a grand jury indictment of first-degree rape.

Crutcher was originally arrested on April 7 on one count of second-degree rape after allegedly admitting to having sex with the 14-year-old at a friend’s graduation party. Crutcher told police he believed the girl was 17.

The incident reportedly happened in the early morning hours of April 4, when Crutcher and the girl were at a party on McClellan Street, Chief Floyd Johnson said at the time. She had never seen the 26-year-old before the party, the girl’s mother told police.

Crutcher was also listed with three charges of third-degree domestic violence (reckless endangerment, criminal surveillance and harassment) and third-degree theft. He remained in Limestone County Jail Monday afternoon under a $43,500 bond.
