Ardmore’s Cody Reed throws in the sixth inning of his team’s 1-0 loss to Oneonta Friday. It was only the second loss for Ardmore with Reed on the mound this season. The senior pitcher allowed one hit and no earned runs in the loss. Ardmore won the second game 5-3 to force a third game Saturday.

Ardmore showed the rest of the state over the weekend that there is more to their team than one ace pitcher by winning back-to-back games over Oneonta to advance to the semifinals for the second consecutive season.

With Cody Reed on the mound, everyone figured Ardmore could count game one of its third-round series against Oneonta as a win and hope to get one of the next two in the series to advance.

The senior, pitching his last home game, struck out 17 batters, walked one, gave up one hit and one unearned run.

The left-hander had a no-hitter through five innings Friday, before giving up a triple in the top of the sixth. Reed struck out the next two batters and was one strike away from getting out of the inning when a costly error was committed along the third-base line.

With a third out looming, Oneonta’s Nathan Musso attempted to steal home and got caught in a run-down. It ended with the ball being thrown into the outfield and Musso jogged home for the only run of the game.

With their back against the wall, Ardmore fought back to force a third game with a 5-3 win Friday night. Garrett Miller got the win for Ardmore, pitching a complete game.

Miller allowed seven hits and contributed at the plate. With two outs and the score tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth, Miller’s single drove in Will Turner. Carson Pack then drove in another run, followed by an Oneonta error, which allowed Miller to cross the plate.

On Saturday, the Tigers used a big fourth inning to pull away from the No. 3-ranked Redskins. Clinging to a 4-3 lead, Ardmore’s bats exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth and hung on for a 9-7 victory.

No. 5 Ardmore will travel to Haleyville for a 4A semifinal series beginning Friday, May 9.
