As softball season winds down across the state, teams begin area tournaments this week in order to qualify for Regional tournaments.

Several area tournaments were delayed because of severe weather Monday and Tuesday, including the 1A Area 16 tournament, which Athens Bible hosted. That tournament and many began yesterday.

The ABS girls team won their opening game against R.A. Hubbard and had to play at least four more in order to win the double-elimination tournament. Results from the single-day tournament were not available at press time.

The top two teams from each area advance to the North Region Tournament played May 9-10 at the Huntsville Sportsplex.
