Athens High School JROTC awarded at meet

The Athens High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) was awarded for its performance at a Sept. 20 drill meet at Sparkman High School.
The cadets won first place in two categories — color guard and unarmed drill. The competition brought together 12 area JROTC programs, and began with a physical training test. Each JROTC program also had the opportunity to compete in armed and unarmed drill, color guard, inspection, exhibition and knockout.
Tyler Clarke commanded the Athens High School color guard, and its members include Tedric Tibbs, Kaitlyn Lawrence and Justin Similton. Tedric Tibbs commanded the unarmed drill team, and its members include Natallia Olmedo, Claire Turner, Noah Ballard, Raynika Smiley, Anthony Hankins, Jadius Malone, Andrew Ross, Justin Similton, Nate Remer and Johanna James. Issac Standley and Roberta Jefts served as alternates.
Chief James Chambers and 1st Sgt. Leonard Long commended the Athens JROTC cadets on their intense preparation for this event.
