FLORENCE — Tanner junior Gabriel Leon rang up a playoff hat trick on Saturday, leading the Rattlers 4-0 over host Mars Hill Bible School in the opening round of the Class 1A-4A state playoffs.
Leon scored on a top-shelf goal midway through the first half and went left corner pocket on his second goal with less than five minutes remaining until halftime.
Sophomore Luis Garcia notched the Rattlers’ third goal early in the second half before Leon volleyed his third goal with five minutes left in the match to make it 4-0.
The Rattlers (8-4) advanced to the second round to play at West Morgan at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Rebels (15-7-1) beat Athens Bible 3-0 on Saturday.
Tanner split its previous two meetings with the West Morgan, winning a 2-0 away match in February and dropping the home rematch 2-0 in March.
Tanner also beat Mars Hill 4-2 in its season opener on Feb.17. The Tigers finished the season at 9-7-1.
