Although it seems like it just started, Alabama high school baseball’s regular season is nearly over. Baseball teams across the state finished up area play Saturday and will play first round playoff series, beginning Friday.
Four Limestone County teams — Athens Bible, Ardmore, West Limestone and Athens — qualified for the postseason.
West Limestone was the final team to book its place in the playoffs with a pair of wins over area foe Rogers Friday.
Competing for the final playoff spot in 4A Area 16, West rebounded from a 4-3 loss at Rogers Thursday. With a 4-2 and 7-3 victories over Rogers Saturday, West clinched the second playoff spot in the area, behind Central.
West will travel to No. 4 Brooks in the first round.
Ardmore is the only team to host a first-round game after clinching first in its area with wins over Pope John Paul II Catholic High School of Huntsville last week. Ardmore shutout Catholic 11-0 Tuesday before completing the sweep with a 9-5 win Thursday.
Athens secured its spot in the playoffs with a sweep of Russellville last week. AHS will travel to No. 2 Cullman in the first round.
No. 3 Athens Bible finished second in 1A Area 16 behind No. 2 ranked Shoals Christians. ABS travels to Tharptown for its first round series.
