AHS hosts mental health fair

In conjunction with Mental Health Awareness week, Athens High School held its third mental health fair on Wednesday, April 30.

The week of April 28, was an opportunity to spread awareness about mental health issues and the importance of self-care and stress management. Students had the opportunity to visit organizations such as Family Resource Center, Limestone County Child Advocacy Center, Chick-fil-A, Athens-Limestone Hospital, Thrive Alabama, United Way, Alabama Department of Public Health, and Limestone County Mental Health Center to learn about mental health resources and tips. Luminous Counseling Services was also on-site with therapy dogs.

Activities were sponsored by the Athens High School Mike Jones Chapter of Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society and Active Minds Club.

Other activities during the week included Awareness Wednesday (students wore green to show support for mental health) and a door decorating contest (hallway doors were adorned with mental health awareness messages to promote kindness, self-care, support, understanding and positivity).
Active Minds officers held A.S.K. (Acknowledge, Support, Keep in Touch) training for their peers.
