Charleigh Maxson scored a goal off a Harper Rea assist to lift Athens’ varsity girls soccer team to a 1-0 win over Buckhorn in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs on Thursday.

Lauren Godbee recorded the shutout for the Golden Eagles, who outshot Buckhorn 17-2 en route to improving to 15-5-2. 

Coach Chelsea Hurst’s group will next play the winner of Randolph and Decatur.

East Limestone, meanwhile, saw its season end following a 1-0 loss to Priceville. The Indians finished with an 8-9-2 record.
