Athens Bible and Lindsay Lane are headed to the next stage.

The Trojans (Class 1A) and Lions (Class 2A) swept their respective opening-round series in the AHSAA baseball playoffs on Friday.

No. 10 Athens Bible (16-7) recorded 9-6 and 7-6 victories against Ider and will battle Spring Garden in the second round next week.

Jake Banta’s RBI single in the sixth inning of the nightcap put the Trojans in front and Ethan Barnes later stranded the bases loaded with a pair of crucial strikeouts to pick up the save and help his team advance.

Lindsay Lane, meanwhile, beat Pleasant Valley (9-6, 9-6) and will take on Sumiton Christian for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Lane Jones hit for the cycle in the opener, while the Lions (19-15) erased a 6-3 deficit in Game 2 with a five-run fifth — Sam Jackson’s go-ahead, two-run triple being the pivotal hit.

Elsewhere, the season came to an end for Elkmont and West Limestone.
