Nearly 150 students from Athens High School’s choir and band programs have traded in their classrooms for the magical sights and sounds of Walt Disney World.
Under the guidance of choir director Teresa Edwards, the Athens High School choir will participate in the Disney Imagination Campus — a unique program designed to inspire young performers with hands-on experience. The program provides students with the chance to engage in immersive educational workshops led by trained Disney professionals.
“We are thrilled about this amazing opportunity that will allow our AHS Choir to continue developing their vocal, performance, leadership and collaboration skills,” Edwards stated in a release from Athens City Schools.
The program offers students insights and instructions into the rigorous entertainment industry — honing their talents and skills before they take center stage at Disney Springs to perform a wide-variety of musical selections Sunday, March 23.
Meanwhile, the Pride of Athens Golden Eagle Marching Band — led by director Ty Parker — will entertain thousands of park visitors as they take the spotlight in a parade down Main Street, USA at the Magic Kingdom Saturday, March 22.
The Golden Eagles will represent the city of Athens and Athens High School through their routines as they lead the way through the crowds.
Parker echoed the sentiments of Edwards, highlighting how valuable an experience this is for his students.
“I am thankful for this opportunity for our students to experience the high standard of excellence that Disney provides, not just as spectators but as active participants in the beloved parade,” Parker said. “I also hope this trip allows students to create lasting memories with their band family. This experience is a valuable addition to our Pride of Athens Golden Eagle Band parade resume, and we look forward to future parade endeavors.”
The musicians are scheduled to return from their trip Monday, March 24.
