Huntsville developer TJ Lee — with Leeland Ventures, LLC — and partner Peter Lowe announced the grand opening of The Shoppes at Lindsay Lane with a special ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of Phase 2 of the project Wednesday, March 19.
The center, which has been initially anchored by Slim Chickens and First National Bank, features eight total retail spaces and it is located just one block off Highway 72 — at 1612 Lindsay Lane.
The new 15,134 square foot retail center addition sits amid one of Athens’ busiest and most economically affluent commercial areas and main thoroughfare to downtown Athens.
With its accessibility to both Highway 72 to the north, and Lindsay Lane to the east — the center sits at the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city of Athens. According to the Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce, an estimated 30,550 vehicles pass through that intersection per day.
Leeland Ventures broke ground on the retail phase of The Shoppes at Lindsay Lane at the same time they opened Slim Chickens in July 2023.
“At one time, Athens was a small suburban city on the outskirts of Huntsville until a decade ago when Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal and high-tech industrial corridor began recruiting workers from all over the world,” Lee said in a press release. “People began overflowing into surrounding communities and Athens was one of the beneficiaries. Limestone County and Athens are now one of the fastest growing communities in Alabama.”
In fact, Athens’ population growth hit nearly 4 percent and saw a 10 percent increase in average household income at more than $104,088 per year within a one-mile radius, according to the ESRI census.
“Peter and I are proud to be a part of the area’s job and commercial growth, which is imperative to a growing residential market,” Lee said. “Seeing the trend, we began investing in the Athens market several years ago and with the recorded growth and our excellent location, The Shoppes at Lindsay Lane will offer much needed products and services to the people of Athens.”
Numerous community leaders and local elected officials were on hand for the ribbon cutting on Wednesday. Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, alongside city councilmen Harold Wales and James Lucas, and Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly were also present for the special event.
