Athens man arrested for sexual abuse of a child

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 72-year-old Athens man on charges of Sexual Abuse of a Child Less Than 12-years-old — following an investigation led by Captain Caleb Durden, according to a release from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, March 4, Durden completed a report detailing allegations of child sexual abuse. During the investigation, evidence suggested the potential for multiple victims.
Based on the findings in this initial case, probable cause was established to arrest the 72-year-old Athens man. Durden and Investigator Jesse Gibson responded to the suspect’s residence where he attempted to flee but was taken into custody. Investigators Stephen Posey, Hayden Pierce and Evidence Technician Massy Tolen assisted in executing a search warrant at the home.
“I am incredibly thankful to those who bravely came forward today to help break the cycle of abuse,” Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin stated in the release. “Your courage is an inspiration to us all. To all survivors of these horrific crimes, please know that you are not alone. We stand with you and are ready to support you whenever you choose to come forward.”
The suspect has been served with 10 total charges. He is currently facing the following charges:
— 3 counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child Less than 12
— 6 counts of Enticing a Child for Immoral Purpose
— 1 count of Indecent Exposure
It is believed that the 72-year-old man’s victims were between the ages of 2 years old and 15 years old, according to the release. His offenses may span decades.
This investigation remains ongoing. Bond has not yet been set on all of the charges and further charges are possible.
