West Limestone’s softball team used the long ball to put the hurt on opposing teams at the Decatur Invitational.

The Wildcats smacked 14 home runs across six wins this past weekend — they knocked off Bob Jones, Central-Florence and Buckhorn in pool play before defeating Deshler, Austin and Madison County in bracket play — to take home the trophy and improve to 12-2 on the season.

“This was a true team effort,” West Limestone coach Molly Fenn said. “At some point this weekend, every person on the team stepped up in a big way. Our senior leadership is awesome — and I think that’s what pushed us through. At the end of the night, they were exhausted and they were cold … but they battled. I’m proud of every one of them.”

Lilly Bethune (four), JuliAnn Kyle (four), Haley Waggoner (three), Aubrey Bethune (two) and Katie Lyn Kyle (one) each homered for the Wildcats.
