The Alabama National Guard promoted Brigadier General Terry L. Grisham to the rank of Major General during a formal promotion ceremony Feb. 12, at the ALNG Joint Force Headquarters in Montgomery, according to a release from ALNG Public Affairs.

During the event in the State’s Capital, District 6 Rep. Andy Whitt helped official promote Grisham with the swearing-in ceremony.

“Congratulations to Terry Grisham on his well-earned promotion to Major General,” Whitt told The News Courier. “Your exceptional leadership is an inspiration to all. Limestone County proudly stands behind you and you achievements. We wish you and your family nothing but the best.”

Grisham, a Limestone County native who graduated from Athens State University, has demonstrated leadership and unwavering commitment throughout a military career that first started in 1990. The promotion is a testament to his dedication, expertise and significant contributions to the Army National Guard.

During his career, Grisham has commanded at every level from Second Lieutenant to Brigadier General. He has also been deployed multiple times in support of various operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.

With this promotion, Grisham will now serve as Assistant Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

Grisham will continue to oversee the ALNG which is composed of 14,000 soldiers, airmen and civilians. More than 80 percent of Guardsmen serve part-time, leaving their families and jobs to don a uniform in support of the State of Alabama in times of crisis and in wars abroad for the United States of America. The ALNG is also a reserve-component force with units of nearly 100 specialties in 57 communities around the state.
