Law enforcement collaboration nets narcotics arrests

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit and SWAT Team, in collaboration with the Athens Police Department’s Narcotics Unit, conducted a narcotics operation within the city of Athens and Limestone County, according to a release from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

The operation successfully concluded with  a narcotics-related search warrant at the 700 block of Brownsferry Street in Athens.

As a result of the operation, law enforcement seized more than a quarter pound of methamphetamine, more than an ounce of fentanyl pills, a possession amount of crack cocaine, a small quantity of marijuana and two firearms.

“This operation represents our ongoing efforts to disrupt the flow of dangerous drugs in our community,” Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin stated in the release. “The collaboration between our teams and the Athens Police Department highlights our shared commitment to protecting our citizens.”

Three individuals were arrested during the operation.

A 33-year-old Alabama state and federal probationer is currently held at the Limestone County Detention Facility on a $1.5 million bond. His charges include:

— Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess.

— Two counts of Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree.

— Possession of a Controlled Substance.

— Two counts of Drug Trafficking – Fentanyl.

— Drug Trafficking – Methamphetamine.

A 35-year-old Alabama state parolee, who is being held on a parole violation warrant and a $500,000 bond. His charge includes:

— Drug Trafficking.

A 59-year-old woman is being held on a $505,000 bond at the Limestone County Detention Facility. Her charges include:

— Drug Trafficking – Methamphetamine.

— Possession of a Controlled Substance.
