Letter to the editor: Republican Party not really looking so good

In Wednesday’s News Courier there was an “editorial” (“Eventful week looks good for Republicans”) that gave the impression that all was good with the “Trumplicans” and the run for the White House.

The former president had a brush with death from a lone shooter. God and luck was on his side. The shooting should not have happened and is being investigated for what lapses in security allowed the shooting to happen.

Five days later, Donald Trump gave his acceptance speech at the RNC Convention. I, along with millions of people, watched the speech, which started humbly and then quickly went off script and the teleprompters. Trump fell back to his “Hannibal Lecter” stump speech and never recovered the humble part. This was not, in my opinion, a “rousing speech accepting the nomination,” but a disjointed “same old same old” triad that we have heard since he came on the scene in 2015.

Trump has never quit running for the office and has done everything he can to obtain again the highest office in the USA, even attempting a coup on January the 6th of 2021.

The excitement behind Kamala Harris is amazing, and the voters are responding with their emotions and money. It is said that her campaign raised more money in one day than anyone before, and 60 percent of the donors were first-time donors to any political campaign. She won’t win Alabama, but her mojo and momentum is building by the day.

The opinion of the Courier is that the Democrats have a huge hurdle to overcome before they could beat the “Trumplicans.” It may be a hurdle, but with the excitement over Harris, the race for the President of the United States is truly a race now.

The statement in the editorial,”10 days later, Republicans look to be in great shape,” is not even close to what is happening nation wide.

In my opinion, the “Trumplican party” doesn’t look in good shape at all.

I hope the leader of the Alabama Republican Party has gotten a real ID so he can vote in this year’s election.
