The Athens Arts League hosted a free Art After Hours concert on the Fourth of July Weekend, Saturday, July 6, featuring Huntsville-based rock band JED Eye.

The band performed classic rock covers from the ‘80s and ‘90s, electrifying the crowd of eventgoers in front of High Cotton Arts, on 103 West Washington Street, from 7-9 p.m.

Large crowds of people gathered in the downtown street to take in the music, some sat in their lawn, while the more lively group cut up the roadway with their slick moves.

Attendees were welcomed to shop through the various painting, sculptures and photographs inside of High Cotton Arts, as a part of the many activities going on though out the night.

Parents were urged to bring their kids to the free event, as a patriotic craft for kids was provided along with Kona Ice to cool down in the summer heat.

“We encourage people to dine with our downtown restaurants and then come out to support our artist and enjoy live music and festivities,” Jennifer Hilton Sampieri, Athens Arts League board vice president, said in a social media post promoting the concert.

As the band performed, so too did the Rocket City Starlets — showcasing their bright red, white and blue uniforms and hair as they danced on Saturday night.

Art After Hours was made possible by the Athens Arts League, Senator Tim Nelson through the Alabama Tourism Department, the City of Athens and Morrell Engineering.
