Athens’ Grayson Hays, Athens Bible’s Luke Murrell and Lindsay Lane’s Alex Cook headlined a terrific collection of local standouts as deserving first-team selections when the Alabama Sports Writers Association announced its 2024 All-State baseball team on Saturday.

Ardmore’s Keaton Johns and Athens Bible’s Ethan Johnson joined the trio on this year’s honorary squad — both as second-team picks — while Athens’ Caiden Dumas, Athens Bible’s Weston Todd, East Limestone’s Chris Fitts, Lindsay Lane’s Lane Jones and West Limestone’s Braxton Griffin earned honorable mention nods.

The All-State baseball team is decided by the ASWA’s prep committee, which chooses from a list of athletes spanning seven classifications across the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). The Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) is also part of the annual selection process.

Had 41 hits, 36 runs, 27 RBIs, 24 stolen bases, 13 walks, seven doubles, three triples and no strikeouts. Compiled a 5-1 record with a 1.03 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and 85 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Threw two shutouts. Pitched a perfect game. Held opposing hitters to a .138 batting average against.
