Athens High School Student Council Association has received the 2024 National Gold Council of Excellence Award. This honor, by the National Association of Student Councils with support from its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, recognizes student councils for their record of leadership, service and activities to better both the school and the community.
The National Council of Excellence is founded on the four tenets of the NASC, including leadership, service, engagement and student voice.
Student councils must demonstrate their successful sponsorship, participation and leadership in activities to establish a positive environment, elevate student voice, culture and foster academic and social growth, and better the school and community.
Athens High School Student Council Association served as both the 2023-2024 Alabama Student Council Association President School and Southern Association of Student Councils Vice President School. Athens High School SCA also organized annual events such as Athens High School Homecoming (Dress-Up Days, Bonfire and Parade), Veterans Day Assembly, Specialized Opportunities for Adolescent Readiness Christmas Party, Kindness Week Full Tummy Combat Hunger Day, Blood Drive and more. Student leaders tutor and mentor across the district and assist with other activities such as Teacher Institute Day and Special Olympics.
The National Gold Council of Excellence Award reflects the dedication of our Athens High School SCA student leaders, their Golden Eagle spirit, positive influence and pride in Athens High School and the community.
