According to Anthony Pressnell, Athens police chief, the driver slipped off the brake pedal to the accelerator causing the car to crash into the front of the business.
“There were two people inside of the store eating,” Pressnell said. “They were not hurt and neither was the driver of the vehicle.”
Colby Mays was next door to Marco’s Pizza, at Refine Chiropractic, when the accident occurred and he was one of the first people to arrive on the scene to call for emergency services.
“We heard a loud sound and we ran up front and saw that the car had gone through the front window,” Mays said. “We made sure everyone was OK and called 911.”
Marco’s Pizza did not waste any time and the restaurant has already reopened, as wood has been used to board up the open window.
In a statement from the city of Athens, the Athens Police and Fire Departments received the call at 11:44 a.m.

A few minutes prior to the accident at Marco’s Pizza a sizable commercial truck crashed into the overpass bridge on East Forrest Street next to Whit’s Barbecue.
“The truck was too big to go through the underpass,” Pressnell said. “Unfortunately, this is a fairly common occurrence right there.”
The truck’s collision with the bridge tore open the trailer of the commercial truck, scattering debris on the roadway. The accident was quickly cleaned up by first responders and no injuries were reported.
According to Pressnell there is no structural damage to the bridge from the accident on Thursday morning.
On Friday morning another car collided with a residential business, as a Toyota RAV4 crashed into the front of Mallette Dermatology of US Highway 72.
The accident took place less than a mile away from the Marco’s Pizza accident.
No injuries were reported according to first responders on the scene.
