NASHVILLE, TN — Macarius Jeremiah “JJ” Jones, of Athens, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Science degree with a concentration in Agribusiness at Tennessee State University’s commencement ceremony, held on May 4.
A 2020 Tanner High School graduate, Jones was a mainstay on the dean’s list – eight of eight semesters – at TSU. He was a 2023 Academic Merit-Honors Scholar, a participant in the TSU College of Agriculture Dean’s Scholar Program, a member of the National Honors Society and a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Internship recipient. Jones was also proficient outside of the classroom, serving as a member of the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences extracurricular group.
In addition, Jones spent the summer of 2023 working as an intern with the Farm Production and Natural Resource Conservation in the Soil Conservation Department of the USDA. He worked professionally with individual and group-owned properties in the development of conservation plans, and safely handled sensitive U.S. government and landowner information in the form of physical copies and on a network-based document management system.
Finally, Jones was a research assistant at TSU’s College of Agriculture, conducting and presenting research for several faculty members on various projects.
After graduation, Jones will be vetting a number of graduate schools for a good fit to continue his studies.
