STATE TRACK AND FIELD: Ridgle, Romans win gold medals; Several local standouts compete

Athens’ JayShon Ridgle and Athens Bible’s Meredith Romans took home gold medals at their respective state track and field meets this weekend, while several other local standouts also showcased their skills in Cullman and Gulf Shores.

Ridgle bested the competition in the Class 6A 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.85. He also had a third-, fourth- and fifth-place showing in his other events. 

Malea Wiggins (second in shot put) and Te’Maira Hughes (third in discus) also medaled for the Golden Eagles.

Romans, meanwhile, secured first in the Class 1A shot put (31-00.75) and second in discus. Teammate Kaylie Key finished in the Top 3 in all three distance runs as well to help the Trojans place fourth as a team in their classification.

Clements’ Bailey James (discus) and Taliyah Yarbrough (high jump) claimed bronze in their respective events.
