Michael May, an Athens High School engineering instructor, recently received the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association Teacher Excellence Award — one of the highest honors given to K-12 technology and engineering education classroom teachers.

The award recognizes educators for their contributions to technology and engineering education, their profession and their students.

May was presented with the honor at the 86th Annual ITEEA Annual Conference in March. May has been a member of the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association since 2022. He has served as an instructor in the Athens High School Engineering Career and Technical Education Academy since 2007.

This academy provides the opportunity for students to participate in hands-on, project-based learning with real-life applications and prepares students for future careers in areas such as aerospace engineering, civil engineering, drafting, mechanical engineering, architecture and more.

Athens High School Engineering Academy received the ITEEA Program of Excellence Award in 2023. For more information about ITEEA, visit www.iteea.org.
