West Limestone’s baseball team had to pick up a win on Friday night.

The Wildcats did just that, splitting the first two of their opening-round series at Ashville to set up Saturday’s Game 3 tiebreaker at 1 p.m.

Ashville scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1 to corral a 6-5 victory.

With the nightcap tied at 4-all in the sixth inning, Braxton Griffin hit a one-out triple and later came around to score on a fielder’s choice. The Wildcats then loaded the bases and took full advantage of the scoring opportunity with a two-run single by Jayden Burford.

The road team then withstood a brief delay — some of the field lights went out — in the seventh inning to seal the deal.

Ardmore and Lindsay Lane, meanwhile, saw their seasons end with opening-round defeats at Springville and Vincent, respectively.
