During the April 1 meeting of the Limestone County Commission, the commission unanimously approved many items, including the agreement to hold a back to school tax free weekend as normal as well as to grant access to property to repair a broken or missing sewer cap on Jefferson Street.
Not every decision was unanimous, though. District 2 commissioner Danny Barksdale was concerned about the development in his district as well as the cost of development to road quality around the county.
Barksdale said that there are so many subdivisions in his district that the schools are struggling to accommodate what they already have.
“District 2 has all the development it needs right now,” Barksdale said before voting against the 99-lot subdivision presented by County Engineer Marc Massey.
Massey also warned residents to be aware that the county is going to start spraying ditches soon, and residents need to make sure their signs are out of the right-of-way. Signs collected by the county ahead of spraying will be available to collect at the county shed for a while, but it would be best to remove the signs ahead of time.
During the public comment section, one resident expressed concern over the state of the grass around the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the courthouse lawn.
“It might sound strange, but sometimes I go up there and talk to (the men memorialized on the wall),” Larry Stoval said when explaining his disappointment at the lack of upkeep around the memorial. The commission promised to address the issue.
