Limestone County, as a whole, did not see a lot of destruction from the severe weather system that passed through the county Tuesday evening.
According to Limestone County EMA, Limestone County was not heavily impacted by the weather.

“We fared very well. We didn’t have hardly any damage,” said a representative from Limestone EMA. “A couple of small trees, that type of thing.”
One tree closed Elm street for a bit, but according to Athens Police Department Chief Anthony Pressnell, a citizen with a chainsaw was able to get the tree out of the roadway and open up access for Athens Utilities to assess the state of the involved power line.
Along with those trees, the winds caused a bit of damage to an Athens icon. The Catfish Cabin sign, the dancing neon fish, looks a little different in the aftermath.
“We still got the head of the fish and the tail of the fish, but the part of the sign where it stated ‘Catfish Cabin’ is gone. (The storm) actually blew that part of the sign across the street into the Champion parking lot,” said a manager at The Catfish Cabin II Wednesday morning.
The owner of the restaurant confirmed that there are plans to repair the sign that will have been standing 42 years in October.
“I have called into the insurance company right now. I will be repairing what’s damaged. I know it’ll just take some time,” said owner Mary Ware. “It’ll take some time — I was looking this up recently, maybe three to four months — but we’re going to get it fixed.”

While the sign might have taken a hit, Ware is thankful that was all that was hurt.
“By the time I got to my office someone had told me the sign blew down. It all happened so fast, maybe 60 seconds. We were fortunate that we didn’t have any further storm damage and that everyone was safe,” Ware said.
