Athens and Ardmore used the long ball to fuel offensive explosions at this week’s Southern Warrior Classic.

The Class 6A No. 6 Golden Eagles (13-6) parlayed 12 homers into 81 runs in six games — Athens finished with a 5-1 record — at the softball tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Lily Lowery (five), Morgan Stiles (three), Amaya Green (two), Carly Ennis (one) and Caitlyn Tedford (one) all went deep for the Golden Eagles.

The Class 5A Tigers, meanwhile, slugged 12 homers as well in a 4-1 performance — 49 total runs — to improve to 12-9 on the season.

Avery Dunn (four), AG King (three), Addison Mikel (three) and Lexi Mooney (two) each went yard multiple times.
