Clements’ Leah Childress notched first-team honors when the Alabama Sports Writers Association released this year’s All-State basketball teams on Saturday.
The junior standout spearheaded a talented group of four locals who grabbed the attention of the ASWA this past season.
Clements’ Tay Tay Farrar (Class 3A — third team),
Tanner’s Skylar Townsend (Class 2A — second team) and East Limestone’s Zak Cain (Class 5A — honorable mention) were also recognized in their respective classifications.
The All-State basketball teams are handpicked by the ASWA’s prep committee, which chooses from a list of deserving — and nominated — athletes spanning seven
classifications across the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA).
The Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) is also part of the annual selection process.
Player of the Year finalists from each classification will be announced this Wednesday.
