Animal shelter’s pets of the week

- Binks 4-year-old Russian Blue (M)
This week we are featuring pets that came to the shelter as strays or through animal control and are now being cared for by rescue. In 2023, the Athens Limestone shelter took in 779 stray cats and 886 stray dogs. Surely many of these animals were people’s pets, yet they were not reclaimed. Worse yet, many were just dumped by the river, walking trail or other places, abandoned by their owners.
If you are missing a pet, check with the shelter next to Preston’s on Hwy. 72, Athens, first. Go there and physically look for your pet. File a missing pet report. There are several Facebook pages for lost and found pets in Limestone County as well as neighborhood pages. Post your pet, include pictures, the pet’s name and any specific markings, collar or traits.
These beauties have not been reclaimed by an owner and are looking for a forever home as soon as possible.
