Clements made quick work of its opposition with an impressive showing at the Northwest Regional Tournament.

The Class 3A No. 4 Colts shot a robust 57 percent from the field and held Childersburg to a season-low in points on Friday en route to picking up a 78-38 win at Wallace State to advance to their second straight Elite Eight.

Clements got off to a bit of a slow start as the Tigers (21-9) crafted an early 7-2 lead.

But it was all Colts after that. They ended the opening period ahead by six before dominating the second quarter (27-8) to corral a 25-point halftime advantage.

During those first 16 minutes, Clements shot 55 percent from the field and parlayed several Childersburg turnovers into buckets on the other end.

Coach Shane Childress’ squad continued its tremendous work in the second half, using a 24-10 third quarter to put the game further out of reach.

The coach said he was particularly proud of how his girls distributed the ball — 21 assists on 32 baskets — but added there were still steps to be taken moving forward.

“In coaching, you’ve never comfortable because you’re never satisfied,” Childress said. “We did a lot of stuff that we’ve got to get better at, but I thought we shared the ball tonight and nobody cared who scored. They played for each other and I thought we played some of our best team ball. I was very pleased with how we played.”

Leah Childress led her squad in scoring with 20 points, while Josie Childress (17), Tay Tay Farrar (14) and Taylor Farrar (13) all notched double-digit performances as well. Asiah Malone (seven), Jakayla Farrar (four) and Kaley McEwen (three) rounded out the scoring for Clements.

The Colts (23-9) will look to advance to their second consecutive Final Four next Wednesday, when they play No. 1 Lauderdale County at 12:30 p.m. The Tigers have won all three meetings this season.

“It’s a real good rivalry,” Childress said. “For Clements to be considered a rival with Lauderdale County is a pretty good statement on the direction we’re going and a compliment in and of itself. I hope we play like we deserve it on Wednesday.”
