The Athens Police Department is announcing its Athens Community Eagle Watch Program to help gather video footage.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at 8:05 p.m., officers with the Athens Police Department responded to US 72 East, in the area of Line Road. It had been reported that a traffic crash had happened on US 72, approximately a quarter mile east of Line Road.

Athens-Limestone Ambulance and Athens Fire & Rescue also arrived and transported two individuals to the Athens Limestone Hospital. Limestone County Coroner Mike West arrived and pronounced one individual deceased.

The deceased has been identified as 31 year old Antonio Marcel Langford, of Athens.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was travelling West bound on US 72. This vehicle crossed a grassy median and struck an oncoming (east bound) passenger car. This crash remains under investigation.

Langford was driving the east bound vehicle.
