The Class 3A No. 3 Colts led by just three points (26-23) at halftime but turned up their defensive intensity in the final 16 minutes to — along with their depth — help pull away from the Class 5A Indians.

Ardmore (junior varsity girls) and Elkmont (middle school girls), meanwhile, both defeated West Limestone to earn their respective county championships.

Coach Speak

“We’re very excited to win the Limestone County championship, especially since it’s our second year in a row to do so. It was one of the goals we had hoped to accomplish and it was nice to be able to put a checkmark in that box. I felt like it was a great team victory and every player contributed. The girls did a great job rebounding and running the court. We also used a relentless defense to cause several turnovers, which turned into points. I’m very happy for our two seniors to get to have bragging rights the rest of their lives and grateful for the memories they have created. This is a very close-knit team. They spend a quite of time together outside of basketball. Hopefully, we can use this momentum as we head into the last part of our season.” — Shane Childress
