The Athens Police Department is announcing its Athens Community Eagle Watch Program to help gather video footage.

On Thursday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 pm, Athens Police Department Officers responded to the intersection of US 72 and Hine Street. It had been reported that a westbound vehicle struck Erskin Dewayne Jacobs, 59, of Athens, as he was crossing the road.

Jacobs suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance. He did not survive his injuries.

The vehicle fled the scene West bound on US 72. It has been described as a tan/beige Honda CRV. It will have damage to the front and driver side rear view mirror area. If anyone spots this vehicle, contact Detective Sergeant Kelly Fussell at (256) 233-8718.
