Sweet sips: Downtown Athens hosts annual Sippin’ Cider Festival

Saturday, Dec. 9, those around the Athens Square were able to celebrate the Christmas spirit by shopping around the downtown area and helping determine a winner of the coveted Cider Cup.
From 4-8 p.m., 29 shops and organizations were open late to welcome visitors and serve up their twist on a cider. After trying them all, the participants were able to vote by ballot to help Athens Main Street determine what group got the bragging rights throughout 2024.

Though there were threats of severe weather on Saturday night, Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson felt the night was a success.
“As the National Weather Service predicted on Saturday morning, our window was pushed forward enough that our event enjoyed a beautiful night with absolutely no rain. We had great crowds downtown that shopped, sipped and had dinner at our wonderful restaurants,” Richardson said.
