Area firefighters battling large grass fire near Buc-ee’s

From Athens Fire Chief James Hand:

AFR and numerous agencies are battling a grass fire that extends between I-65 exit 351 and Buc-ee’s. The fire is on the east side of the interstate and does threaten some structures around the Hampton Inn area. The cause is unknown.

All Athens firefighters called in, and nearly every county department on the scene. Crews from Priceville, Decatur and Huntsville also assisting.

Northbound I-65 down to one lane between Exits 347 and 353 because of large grass fire; expect traffic delays in area & watch for responders
