Anna Beth Burns sets the ball for Athens Bible during the state tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Athens High School's Mini Eagles Volleyball Camp will be from July 22-23 at AHS Arena.

Athens Bible’s bid for a Class 1A title ended Wednesday following a first-round loss to University Charter.

The No. 6 Trail Blazers (34-4) moved past the Trojans (25-17, 25-13, 25-9) at the Birmingham CrossPlex and into the semifinals, where they were set to face Sumiton Christian later in the day.

Despite the tough loss, it was still a strong season for Athens Bible.

The Trojans (14-22) netted the Area 15 championship and advanced to the state tournament for the fifth time under 10th-year head coach EA Winland.

The program accomplished those feats with only one senior — a good one in Claire Holt — and should be poised for an encore performance next season.
