Elkmont High School’s head football coach Chris Bunio has resigned, according to the school’s principal Graham Aderholt.

Bunio took over Elkmont’s football program in June 2022 after spending the previous year serving as wide receivers coach at Chelsea.

The Red Devils went just 1-9 in Bunio’s inaugural season but kicked off the 2023 campaign with three straight victories and currently sit at 4-4 overall, which represents the program’s best overall performance since 2014.

Elkmont is off Friday before closing out the season at Colbert County and St. John Paul II. The school will then search for its fourth football coach in five years.

The News Courier reached out to Limestone County Schools for comment on Bunio’s resignation, to inquire about any other resignations at the school and whether Bunio is still employed by Limestone County Schools. By press time, the school system had not responded to the questions.
