One killed in Friday morning crash

The Athens Police Department is announcing its Athens Community Eagle Watch Program to help gather video footage.

On Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at 9 a.m., Athens Police Department Officers responded to the 22000 block of US 72 East, West bound lanes. A traffic crash with entrapment had been reported moments earlier. Investigation revealed that a garbage truck was stopped while making a residential can collection. The truck was struck from behind by a West bound SUV. The SUV driver did not survive.
