The Athens Limestone Animal Shelter will host its annual gala and fundraiser on Oct. 14. The free event will include a silent auction, door prizes, food, drink, bouncy house for kids, music and more.
The purpose of the event is to raise money and awareness for the spay and neuter and treatment of animals in Limestone County. The shelter and its staff want to get to know residents in their community.

“We invite you to spend an evening enjoying time with fellow Limestone County residents, learning about the programs offered by the Shelter, and just taking a time-out from life. We truly want to get to know our community better and highlight the wonderful work done by the shelter employees and volunteers,” the shelter said in a statement.
The silent auction will have items for everyone, such as jewelry, tools, home décor and more. Proceeds will go to the shelter’s spay and neuter program, and all donations are a tax-deductible contribution. Athens Limestone Animal Shelter is a 501c3 organization that relies on donations and adoption fees to run its programs.
In 2022 the shelter took in more than 4,000 animals from animal control, strays and owner surrenders, and this year has already exceeded that number. Adoptions of animals have remained low since Covid, which means that the expenses at the shelter have gone up.
Residents can help the shelter continue serving the community by attending the gala on Oct. 14, contributing an auction item for the event, making a donation or adopting from the shelter.
