John McIntyre helped Athens bounce back in a big way on Friday night.
The senior standout totaled six touchdowns — five rushing and one receiving — and the Golden Eagles accumulated 577 yards of offense in a 55-35 homecoming victory over Mae Jemison.
McIntyre scored on runs of 2, 5, 6, 59 and 2 yards and added a 15-yard touchdown catch from Brogan Gross as Athens rebounded from its first loss of the season last week to improve to 4-1.
Gross also tossed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Jay’shon Ridgle and Silas Jones scampered into the end zone from 46 yards out to highlight the scoring.
Athens led 12-0 after the opening stanza, 28-14 at halftime and 42-27 after three quarters.
McIntyre finished with 120 yards on nine carries and 79 yards on eight catches to go with his six TDs.
Gross, meanwhile, completed 17-of-24 passes for 261 yards and a pair of scores.
Ridgle (five catches for 99 yards) and Jones (72 yards on four carries) were other top playmakers for the Golden Eagles. Johnson Speegle, Caiden Dumas and Robert Borden each contributed offensively as well. Walker Harrison blocked a punt on special teams.
Athens is off next week before resuming region play at Cullman on Friday, Oct. 6.
