Fire at Beall’s confirmed as arson

- Athens Fire and Rescue Chief James Hand said he has family that lives in a community outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Hand was told most supplies are being sent strictly to Lake Charles while surrounding communities also hit by Hurricane Laura are in need of help as well.
A fire at Beall’s Department Store in Athens is being investigated by Athens Fire and Rescue and Athens Police Department. Athens Fire Chief James Hand confirmed Monday afternoon that the fire was set arson.
AFR and APD are currently going through surveillance footage and will release more info when available.
