Son of local law enforcement deputies killed in crash

Dylan A. McMahan, 21 of Athens, was killed in a car accident around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. McMahan was the son of Athens Police Deputy Lt. Katrina Flanagan and Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Justin Flanagan. Both departments shared their condolences to the family.

“We have a wonderful law enforcement family that will continue to offer comfort and support during this time, and your prayers mean much to all of us,” a post on the Athens Police Facebook page said.

“Behind every law enforcement officer is a strong law enforcement family who are there to support them and love them with all that they have,” a post on the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office page said.

The crash happened when the 2008 GMC Sierra pickup he was driving left the road and overturned before striking a tree, according to ALEA. McMahan was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred on Brownsferry Road, about two miles south of Athens. Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are still investigating.

Service arrangements have been announced for Dylan McMahan according to both department’s posts. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 26 from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Isom Chapel Cemetery. His full obituary can be found linked in this story online.
