Home for sale lost to fire in Athens

: Athens Fire and Rescue Chief James Hand said he has family that lives in a community outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Hand was told most supplies are being sent strictly to Lake Charles while surrounding communities also hit by Hurricane Laura are in need of help as well.

Athens Fire responded to a structure fire call at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday night on U.S. 72 near Kids Mart, to the east of the 72/Jefferson Street intersection.

Fire Chief James Hand said the home is a total loss. The house was for sale and not occupied. No one was injured.
