- An approximately 10-acre field fire is believed to have begun when a tractor struck a rock in the field on June 20.
The East Limestone Fire Department responded to a call for a fire off of South Road at Hwy. 251.
The fire began in a wheat field after a planter potentially struck a rock, according to East Limestone Fire Chief Tony Kirk.
The fire was contained in about an hour and consumed around ten acres.
This is the second wheat field fire in the last week that began from equipment.
On last Tuesday, June 14, a fire began in a field near the Gamble House at Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road east of Lindsay Lane.
That fire began when a combine harvester struck a rock and flames spread about ten acres.
Kirk said these calls can be common during this time of year, but it’s hit or miss. They could respond to as little as one call or as many as ten.
